Danny + Jackie • ENGAGEMENT

When I met with Jackie and Danny for the first time, I knew right away that I couldn't wait to work with them.

For their engagement session, we met at Forest Hill Park and did quite a hike. I loved every minute of it. There were moments we thought we were lost but don't worry - we did end up finding the way out! :) We even found a plant which flowers looked like a heart!! Perfect flower for the ring shot right?!

I cannot wait for their wedding in November! :)

Shawn + Cayla • ENGAGEMENT

I feel like I haven't blogged in forever and it's definitely time to change that! It has been a super busy spring season and since it's slowing down for a couple weeks I cannot wait to share all the engagement sessions and a wedding that happened in that short amount of time!

Today I'd like to share Shawn and Cayla on the blog. We had such a fun session full of cows and their 2 sweet pups! I love when my clients bring their dogs to the session. They are part of the family and I totally agree - they should be part of the session as well! :)

I can't wait for their wedding in September!! :)

xoxo,

John & Beth • Engagement

I'm so excited to share this couple on the blog today! John and Beth came all the way from NOVA for their Engagement session with their 3 pups, yes THREE! {alllll the heart eyes!!!} ♥︎  I cannot believe how well they did especially since two of them are actually still puppies.

When Beth emailed me the first time, it didn't take me long until I realized that she's my friends sister-in-law. Oh, I feel so honored to be able to capture their special day. It will be so much fun seeing them all and celebrate their love together. ♥︎

It was cold but sunny day for their session and we were so happy to see the cherry blossoms bloom. That means Spring is finally here!!!

I'm thrilled to finally share John + Beth's Engagement session on the blog today! Get ready for so much love and emotions in the images!! ♥︎♥︎

I cannot wait for their wedding next year!!!

Sabrina

Michael & Ashleigh • Maternity

A couple weeks ago I finally captured Ashleigh's baby bump before her sweet girl arrived. We had to reschedule a few times due to those rainy weekends we've had lately. I'm so done with the rain and snow and really look forward to spring making an appearance soon.

We met on a cloudy Saturday morning but I could see the sun trying to shine through. It wasn't as cold as I expected, thank goodness! I can't get over Ashleigh's dress, it was so beautiful, the perfect pop of color. They also came super prepared. They brought a banner and blocks with their baby girls name on it and her first Jack Rogers sandals. ♥

I had so much fun capturing this memory for them. We walked around different locations and even climbed a fence. I love photographing maternity sessions. They are so special and full of emotions. I loved how Michel had this awesome idea for his daddy shot. ♥

♥♥Congratulations Michael and Ashleigh on your sweet baby girl! She is just precious!♥♥

Spring Mini Sessions

I'm so excited for Spring this year. I feel like this Winter is lasting forever and it has been so cold. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy snow and crisp cold air, but I'm ready for the next season. Thankfully we had a few warmer days here and there but they just feel like a teaser.
We made it through what feels like the longest month of the year, January. YAY - that's already a reason to celebrate.

Today on this rainy Sunday I'd like to brighten up your day and announce my spring mini session!

The dates are April 28 and May 20.

Mini Sessions include:

30 minutes + 20 high resolution fully edited images in an online gallery + all sharing and printing rights

A $30 nonrefundable deposit is required to secure your spot. The remaining amount is due on your sessions date.

Greg & Ashley • Engagement

Last Saturday I started this season with Greg + Ashley's engagement session. This means so many things!! My business has grown so much more than I ever expected and I cannot wait to achieve my goals for this year.  One of them was to be more organized, but also staying on top of blogging, keeping my website up to date and finding new ways to grow my business. YAY for the new year, new goals and new achievements. I cannot wait to see what this year will bring!!

After Ashley emailed me for the first time and we met up to talk about their wedding day, I just couldn't wait to capture their engagement photos. They got engaged the weekend before we met and I was amazed with how much wedding planning she had already done. She is a planner for sure and it all reminded me of planning my own wedding and how I was on top of everything as well. It brings back alllll the excitement as if was yesterday! But what I love most, and notice over and over again, is that my clients don't feel like clients. They don't feel like people I just met. As Ashley and I started talking about all kinds of different things including their story and how he proposed, she didn't feel like a stranger. Not at all! ♥

It was a super cloudy Saturday morning and I just hoped the sun would come out. I probably checked every hour! :D But suddenly, as I was driving to our session I saw the clouds clearing up (FINALLY) and the blue sky shining through! YAY!! Oh, and I loved that they included their two pups in their photos. Aren't they adorable?

I cannot wait to capture their wedding day in September!! ♥

Reflection on 2017 + Goals for 2018

So here we are, celebrating the New Year 2018!! I cannot wait to see what the year will bring.

I'm sitting here with a fresh mug of coffee reflecting the year of 2017. So many amazing memories were made and SBP has grown so much more than I'd ever expected. I was booked for most of my mini sessions, I started getting into weddings and gaining as much experience as possible, I re-branded my business and so many more things. SBP has grown so much thanks to all of you, your support and your trust!

Next to all these wonderful things that happened to SBP this year, there are so many more great things that happened. Dan and I went to Germany and had our "real white wedding". Man, I got to be the luckiest girl all over again. ♥ We celebrated Cooper's FIRST birthday. My parents and my grandma (my grandma's FIRST time to the US) came to visit us and celebrated their FIRST Thanksgiving with us. My sister came in October and we enjoyed our much needed special time - just her and I.

As we walk into 2018 I'm trying to set my goals for this year. for my business as well as my personal ones. I've never been a good "goal setter"  - I admit, I'd rather set no goals than feeling disappointed and embarrassed if didn't achieve them. But I want to change that. I want to set goals and finally push myself out of the shell!

SO I'm super excited to share a few of my goals for 2018:

  • Be more present

Being in the moment is so important and lately I've noticed that I'm not. I don't feel fully present. I want to change that and make sure that I put my phone down to enjoy the movie we wanted to watch, close my computer to spent time with family and to make time for friends and family to catch up. I want to make every moment count!

  • Be thankful for every single day

I'm a worrier. I'm a person who stresses about the little things. I'm a person that forgets to stop, breath and appreciate every once in a while. I read about this challenge to just take 5 ( YES, ONLY FIVE) minutes at night to recall the day and think of one thing you are thankful for that happened that day. I started doing this and I know it has only been a couple days but these 5 minutes change the entire day. I go to bed with a happy, satisfied feeling and wake up ready for the next day. Try it yourself, it's amazing.

  • Shoot more weddings

After discovering my love for wedding I want to make it a big part of my business. I want to gain as much experience as possible and take every opportunity. I'm so excited to say that SBP is accepting weddings now! I'd love to capture your love story! Let's chat! ♥

  • Stop letting social media influence me

This is a HUGE part that pulled me down every so often in 2017. Comparing myself to others, their achievements to mine and their picture perfect feed. I'm self-critical. A lot. I'm OCD with my business which has it's good and bad. I started not comparing myself and my business to others, but it's so hard not to. I learned that we all are a community, not competition. I love it like that. I'm so glad to get to call fellow photographers my friends. I want to continue this and really focus on other, better things than comparison.

  • Gain more experience and invest in education

Gaining experience is so important. You can never learn enough. Yes, my business has grown over the year but the only thing I didn't invest in is education. I really want to make it a point to invest in it this year. Connect with more fellow creatives and support each other. Every single one of us needs that. ♥

I'm so excited to bring on 2018!! How about you? What are you're goals for 2018?

xoxo,

Sabrina

Tips for planning your christmas/winter sessions

IMG-2310.JPG

I cannot believe Christmas is right around the corner. Thanksgiving is in just a couple days away and fall starts to come to an end. As sad as I am seeing the trees loosing their gorgeous colored leaves, I cannot wait for a nice cold winter. I love playing in the snow with our pup and drink hot chocolate every night. :) And I cannot wait for all my winter sessions AND fully booked Christmas minis.

I know how difficult it can be to pick an outfit for such a cold time of the year and it even harder if you are planning outfits for an entire family. So today, I would like to help you plan your session. There are a few things I always consider when it comes to a session in the winter.

First: What look do you want to achieve?

After seeing all these pretty fall colors, winter seems more neutral and 'naked'. The nice things in the wintertime are evergreens with include Christmas trees! :) Winter colors can range from green and red to neutral tones. Combining these combinations looks great with greens and brown tones in the background. I will go into more detail later when we talk about outfits, but keep this in mind when you think about the overall look of your photos. My photography style is light and airy but a lot of dark tones will add more contrast to the images which darkens them as well.

Second: Time of the day

As daylight saving time hits in November, it gets dark pretty early.  I still love sunrise and sunset hours because it just makes you glow. The nice thing about the sun in winter is that it doesn't get as strong and bright as the midday sun in July. One thing I always try to avoid is direct sunlight in your faces, because the last thing we need is your eye tearing up or closing, so this time of the day just leaves us with the perfect amount of soft sunlight. I totally understand if those are the times of day you feel uncomfortable or just can't make it work. In that case we should find a place with lots of trees to give us natural shade (more to that topic in the next section).

Third: Location

For winter sessions, I always love places that provide evergreens or open fields for some color and contrast in the background but I also look for details like fences, brick stairs or houses/barns. It allows us to definitely get the this gorgeous winter green on the background, but also have an option to keep some the photos more neutral.

Fourth: Outfits

Oh man, let's be honest... It is so hard to choose an outfit and not to mention outfits for the entire family. As I mentioned above, winter colors are not just green and red, but also neutral like beige, cream, a blush or even a light charcoal. My tip: try to choose your primary colors (2-3) and build around them. That gives you the option of matching the outfits, but still having differences between them. AND YES, please wear different patterns. Plaid, stripes, shapes, flowers and solid work all great together. Dresses and skirts add a flow between the outfits as well and please don't be afraid to wear boots (YES even rain boots) with them. Scarfs are my go to in the winter as well as a pretty hat and will look great on photos. They also make nice little blankets to snuggle in with your love. Accessories always leave a statement as well.

And at last: props

Cozy blankets, wreath, signs, little tree set ups, ornaments and anything else you can think of that relates to winter and christmas make great props and can be included in the session.

BELOW YOU CAN SEE A FEW COLOR SCHEMES AND OUTFITS TO HELP VISUALIZE EVERYTHING. PLEASE NOTE: THESE ARE NOT MY IMAGES. I GOT THESE OF PINTEREST AND FROM "THROUGH DELANEY'S LENS".

Tips for planning your fall sessions

sbp-51.jpg

YAY! Fall is around the corner which means you can see pumpkins and apples, sweaters and scarfs, (rain)boots and colors like red, orange, yellow and green everywhere. As much as I love summer, the beach and the heat, I'm always really excited about the crisp morning air, the first apple cider and the most beautiful trees outside.

One thing I always had trouble planning were our fall outfits for our yearly photo session. (It's about the only time I can get my hubs in front of the camera :D) So today, I would like to help you plan your fall session. There are a few things I always consider when it comes to a session in the fall.

First: What look do you want to achieve?

In my option, fall is the season for the most colors in a photo. Spring and summer have more pastels and saturated greens while in the fall the leaves are all changing and you are more likely to wear reds, greens, yellow and orange tones. The good news is, you can choose your fall colors and don't have to go with the typical ones I mentioned above. Fall is also about neutral tones since there is usually a lot going on in the background. I will go into more detail later when we talk about outfits, but keep this in mind when you think about the overall look of your photos. My photography style is light and airy but a lot of dark tones will add more contrast to the images which darkens them as well.

Second: Time of the day

Especially in the fall season, there is a glow at sunrise and sunset which means the best time of the day is about an hour after sunrise and the hour before sunset. It will compliment your perfect fall outfits and your skin tones look amazing. In addition to that, it will also avoid shadows in your faces.

For fall sessions, I always love places that provide trees for the color and shade (if needed), but also details like fences, brick stairs, houses/barns or just an open field with a few trees. It allows us to definitely get the colors of the fall, but also have an option to keep some the photos more neutral.

Fourth: Outfits

Oh man, let's be honest... It is so hard to choose an outfit and not to mention outfits for the entire family. As I mentioned above, fall colors are not just green, red, yellow and orange tones but also neutral like beige, cream, a blush or even a light charcoal. My tip: try to choose your primary colors (2-3) and build around them. That gives you the option of matching the outfits, but still having differences between them. AND YES, please wear different patterns. Plaid, stripes, shapes, flowers and solid work all great together. Dresses and skirts add a flow between the outfits as well and please don't be afraid to wear boots with them. Scarfs are my go to in the fall and look great on photos. They also make nice little blankets to snuggle in with your love. Accessories always leave a statement as well.

And at last: props

Cozy blankets, pumpkins, apples and anything else you can think of that relates to fall make great props and can be included in the session. You are also welcome to bring your jersey from your football team and include that as well.

Below you can see a few color schemes and outfits to help visualize everything. Please note: these are not my images. I got these of pinterest!

David & Alondra • Couple

Finally, Alondra and David are live on the blog. This session, this couple, their outfits... everything was literally perfect. When Alondra booked their session, I felt honored to be able to capture their love. She is a photographer as well and David does videography. They introduced me to belle isle/ brown island where I've never shot before and the second we arrived, I fell in LOVE with the location. The light was gorgeous and it wasn't too busy either.  I was speechless how natural they were in front of the camera. It has been one of my favorite sessions for sure!!

He is ONE!

I cannot believe that our sweet baby Cooper is turning ONE today. Where did the time go? First of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY Coop!

When Dan and I got married, we knew we wanted a dog. We decided to wait until we bought a house so that we have more space and honestly didn't have to pay the monthly dog fees at our apartment. We moved in our home in April 2016 and shortly after that we knew it's time for our first baby, our dog Cooper. Once me made a deposit on his litter, time did NOT want to pass. We were on vacation in Europe when I received an email that the puppies were born. We couldn't have been happier. Okay, 5 more weeks until we can choose our forever first fur baby!!! 5 WEEKS!!! How do you keep yourself busy for 5 weeks and not constantly think about having this sweet little thing in your arms?

IMG_6730.JPG
IMG_2267.JPG

Well, I have to admit I didn't grow up with dogs like my hubs did, I never had one and I didn't really know what to expect. I prepared myself for the worst (pee and poop everywhere, everything chewed up, looooots of mouthing and not listening... ) Part of it came true but it wasn't even close to be as bad as I thought. It was hard work to train him, but it was fun. He brought us so much joy, happiness and laughter from DAY 1!

We thought a lot out names.... Oakley, because he was born in the fall. Sunny, because he is golden. Einstein, because they are so smart and I'm from Germany. And there was Cooper, because we both liked that name. As we went to pick out our fur ball it was the hardest decision at first. I had 3 or 4 puppies in my arms at the same time and they were all adorable. How do you choose a pup for your family? How do you know you choose the right one?

Well, they choose you. Dan had Cooper on his arm and I tried to keep the others away from nibbling on Dan's toes :D He handed him to me and I had just said to him that I have no idea how to make a decision but in that moment, Cooper cuddled up between my throat and my head. Never mind, we had picked our sweet new family member. We just knew he was a Cooper.

After playing with him for a little while it was time to leave him and go home. TWO more WEEKS until we can bring him home. Just 2 more weeks... Oh my heart hurt as we left him there. I just wanted to bring him home already.  One week passed and I counted the days until we could pick him up. We bought his first toys and his blanket, a crate and everything he would need. We had visitors from Germany so we kept ourselves busy. And THEN I got the text message... There was a big storm announcement for the Saturday we were supposed to pick him up so we were allowed to come EARLIER. I called Dan and we went on Wednesday night (3 days earlier). Oh I remember that feeling as we brought him home. I know I'm obsessed with our dog but he's like my first baby ♥

Our adventures began. We took him with us as much as we could. Petco, Petsmart, Home Depot, Lowe's, Farmers Market and to the park... The first snow came and we ran outside together and he just LOVED it. And now here we are, it's almost fall again and our Cooper is turning ONE.

sbp-3.jpg
sbp-8.jpg
sbp-4.jpg
sbp-10.jpg

From not liking to cuddle, being pet, mouthing, chewing and house training, taking me for walks instead of the opposite and not listening to what we were saying... we came a long way. He LOVES to cuddle and wants to be pet (he gets mad when we stop) he's gentle with mouthing (most of the time) and only chews if he want's even more attention that he already gets. He was potty trained in just a couple months and now he walks next to me and doesn't pull. He learned how to sit, lay, shake, high five, whisper, speak, leave it and to go 'in' his space. He has brought us so much joy and happiness and he has wiped tears. He is not just a dog, he belongs to our family and I cannot imagine our lives without him.

Today we celebrate you, our big boy. Thank you for being there, cuddling us when we need it and making us smile when we feel grumpy. Thank you for protecting us and making us your entire world.

♥♥♥WE LOVE YOU COOP!! ♥♥♥

The Napier Family • Family

I was so excited when Jessica reached out to me for a family session! Rhett and Brynnlee are just adorable. They arrived in the perfect matching outfits and I had the best time chasing the kiddos around. Rhett and Brynnlee loved holding hands, giving kisses to each other and of course exploring the entire place. It was magical and I loved seeing the whole family interact.

On Saturday I got to spent my morning with the Constantine Family! It's the second time I got to capture this sweet family. When I met them for the first time Vienna could barely walk. This time she is walking around and looks so grown. She is so precious. In addition to that her sweet mom is expecting another precious girl! Vince is one lucky guy!! Vince's family also were in town and joined us for the session! They will cherish these memories forever.

I can't get over this sweet family! Jake, their new fur addition to the family is so handsome. He has a special story to tell. He got left on the side of the road and wandered around. He was lost, scared and without a home. Adam and Jackie didn't hesitant a second to take him in and make him feel safe. They tried to find him a home but it was unsuccessful. After a few days and hours of taking care of this sweet pup (and loving him already) they decided to be his new family. For the first time in a while (or maybe in forever) Jake feels love, safe and most importantly home!! Such a sad story with an heartwarming happy end! ♥♥♥

Congratulation to this sweet family and their new handsome pup! Sadie is a great big sister!:)

When Monica emailed me if they could bring their pup to their session, I got even more excited then I already was. YES, PLEASE! Bring me all the pups! I'm totally the opinion that they are part of your family and especially since I have my own now, that feeling grew even stronger. I have to admit that sessions with dogs can be challenging, but they are still one of my favorites.

I loved spending my morning with Monica, her husband Vicente, their husky Blaze and her growing baby bump. The weather was perfect and I don't even know where to begin about their perfect matching outfits. I fell in love with her skirt right away. The color theme they wore was just amazing.

Monica is also a photographer and I really enjoyed talking to her. It was an honor take their updated family photos with Blaze and her baby bump. I know men do not like having their photos taken but I was impressed how well Vicente did.

Keyah + Keyara • Ballet

I cannot believe last Sunday's photo session. I've never shot ballet before and I was so excited to gain this experience. I'm so amazed with the talent and passions these two girls have. Keyah and Keyara are incredible dancers. Tristi, their mom, was a professional ballet dancer and now she teaches ballet.

So today I'm sooo excited to finally share these stunning photos of these two marvelous dancers.
